What is the National Honor Society Scholarship?
High school seniors who are members of the National Honor Society and embody its core values—scholarship, service, leadership, and character—can apply for the National Honor Society Scholarship, also known as the NHS Scholarship. Sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), this program awards $2 million annually to deserving students.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, you must be:
- A high school senior graduating in the spring
- An active NHS member in good standing with a verified student account
- Enrolled at a school with an active NHS chapter
- Planning to enroll at a U.S. college or university in the fall following spring graduation
How to Apply
- Create a student account and have it verified by your NHS adviser (You will not be able to access the application before account verification.)
- Receive one recommendation form and certification by your NHS adviser
- Submit application, along with the recommendation and certification by the deadline
Application Timeline
- Application Opens: October 1
- Application Closes: December 1
- Award Selection Notification: April
- Deadline for accepting scholarship or requesting deferral: July 1
- Scholarship Disbursement: Early August

How Much Is the National Honor Society Scholarship?
600 NHS scholarships will be awarded, and the awards range from $3,200 to $25,000. National semifinalists (575) will earn a $3,200 scholarship, national finalists (24) will earn a $5,625 scholarship, and the national winner (1) will earn the grand $25,000 scholarship.
