Students receiving the illustrious full ride generally not only demonstrate academic excellence but also have exceptional financial need.
That’s not to say that those with sufficient financial means cannot or will not ever receive a full ride, but it’s not as common as those with need, since schools prefer to create opportunities for everyone, regardless of financial status.
Athletes or students with special talents, can receive full scholarships to college without regard to their financial status, as the scholarships are generally awarded based upon athletic ability or extraordinary talent.
